Researchers estimate that introverts make up as much as 50% of the general population. The percentage is likely much higher within the grants profession, where we spend much of our time engaged in solitary work. Although introverts recognize that networking is an important part of professional development, it can be nerve-wracking to navigate a room full of people you don’t know. How can introverts overcome these anxieties to embrace networking as an opportunity for discovery, learning, and building mutually beneficial relationships?
Elizabeth Kilbourne from Career Strategies will lead participants through a fun and successful approach to networking that draws on the individual strengths of introverts. After this interactive workshop, you will walk away with useful strategies, tools, and insights to help you network with ease, including:
• The introverts’ advantage to networking
• Tips for navigating conferences and large scale networking events
• Your individual 60 second elevator pitch
• A personalized networking plan that won’t exhaust you
Presenter: Elizabeth Kilbourne, Career Strategies
Elizabeth is an empathic closet introvert and engineer from Michigan State University turned entrepreneur and career coach. She has 20 plus years of experience developing patented packaging solutions and more importantly developing people. Elizabeth loves the creative world of writing, art, design, and UX design. In 2008, she opened her consulting business to combine her linear mindset and ability to craft a strategic career path with her love of design and her passion to help people. When she is not working, you can find her in the Chicago suburbs living with her extroverted partner, her eleven year old rocker daughter, and Blue the rescue puppy.
This workshop aligns with GPC Competency #7: Knowledge of practices and services that raise the level of professionalism of grant developers.
