Grant Professionals Association - GPA Headquarters Staff
Mike Chamberlain - Chief Executive Officer
Mike Chamberlain is an association executive with over 20 years of leadership experience with for profit and not-for-profit organizations, including one of the largest national medical specialty societies, an association management company and working as an independent consultant.

Mike is a Certified Association Executive. Mike has been active in several local nonprofit organizations and associations, serving on the boards of the Greater Kansas City Postal Customer Council, Kansas City Meetings Industry Council, and the Kansas City Society of Association Executives, serving as President of KCSAE in 2008-2009.
Mike is a committed professional who offers an impressive balance of being able to efficiently and effectively handle necessary day-to-day operations while still being able to focus on the strategic future for an organization.


Kelli Romero – Membership & Marketing Director; GrantZone Moderator
Kelli started with GPA at the beginning of October, 2009. Kelli handles all of the association's membership, recruitment of new members, retention of members, Grantzone online community moderation, sponsorships, exhibiting, marketing and design, merchandise sales, website information and more! Outside of work, Kelli owns her own vinyl crafting business and assists her husband Raul with his catfishing business. Kelli enjoys spending time with her husband and their daughter Kyndal and huge extended family and friends! They have one dog, one cat, and own a tortoise rescue along with five tortoises and one turtle - all pets begin their names with the letter S.
Barb Boggs - Events & Volunteer Relations Manager
Barb started with GPA the end of July 2010. Previously, she was a Corporate Sales Coordinator with Weight Watchers where she helped setup and coordinate meetings within the Corporate Solutions and National Business entities. Prior to that Barb was a teacher and spent many summers working for Rock Springs 4-H Center, a nonprofit camp & conference center owned by the Kansas 4-H Foundation. Outside of work, Barb enjoys spending time with her husband Matt, daughter Jamie, and son Evan along with a host of extended family and friends. Barb is also an avid sports fan and loves cheering on the Kansas State Wildcats and Kansas City Royals.

Shelley Wales - Chapter Relations Manager
Shelley Wales joined GPA in February 2017 as Chapter Relations Manager.  

Before coming to GPA, Shelley spent 20 years working in higher education as well as for community development and social service not-for-profits such as the YMCA of Greater Kansas City and Angel Flight Central.

In addition to her role as “Head Cheerleader” for the GPA Chapters, she is also active in the Kansas City community and has served as President of a local chapter of career professionals and served on the Board of Directors for the South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. 

At home she enjoys hosting barbeques with her husband Corey and their son, Jack.

Alicia Cook - Accountant   
Alicia joined GPA in December 2015 as the Accountant. Alicia has wide-ranging experience with accounting and financial reporting for nonprofits. She is looking forward to assisting in the development of policies and procedures, as well as overseeing the accounting for the GPA Chapters. Outside of work, Alicia serves on the board of a start-up foundation. She enjoys volunteering in the community and spending time with family and friends.


Leesa Whitson - Administrative Assistant
Leesa Whitson joined GPA as Administrative Assistant in March, 2018. Her work background represents a wide range of interests including stints with a municipal court, retail arts & crafts, high school ISS para, and word processing for a company specializing in contamination remediation. She enjoys knitting & crochet, gardening, cooking, reading, and DIY projects - especially if her husband or sons do the hard work.

All sorts of music fills her playlists, but perennial favorites are Blues, Americana, Folk and a category best called "The Unusual." Leesa enjoys listening to high school and college sports on the radio. She cheers for each of the Kansas City professional sports teams and has a soft spot for the underdog.
