The Road Ahead

The last issue of the GPA Grant News included the Annual Reports from GPA and our affiliates, GPCI and GPF. These reports provide a summary of the activities and significant accomplishments of your organizations during 2016. We are committed to building on these successes. Here are just a few of the ways we will be doing this during 2017.

Strategic Planning

The GPA Long Range Planning Committee has started the process of developing the GPA Strategic Plan for 2018 and beyond. You will play an important role in this process as we ask for your input to determine the direction of GPA for the coming years. The committee and the GPA Board of Directors will be working throughout this year to develop a plan to guide our activities. We expect to complete this work prior to the GPA Annual Conference in San Diego in November.

Chapters

As many of you know, GPA now has a Chapter Relations Manager who is focused on providing support and resources for our chapters. Shelley Wales started in February and has been actively working with our Regional Representatives and chapter leaders to identify areas for improvement. This will include updating chapter resources and governing documents, developing leadership training opportunities, and creating membership recruitment and retention materials. Our objective is to make chapters stronger to serve you better.

Making Connections

GPA remains dedicated to improving the professionalism of our members and advancing the grants profession. There are two specific initiatives that are addressing this need, our Mentoring program and our Advocacy Task Force. A GPA Task Force has been working hard to develop a mentoring program for GPA. After receiving input from members at last year's annual conference, they have made improvements to the plan and will be launching the program this year. We have recently formed an Advocacy Task Force to determine how GPA should advocate for the profession and develop a plan for making this happen. You will be hearing more about these exciting opportunities in the next several months.

As we travel this road into the future together, our commitment to you is that we will work to make GPA THE Authority in the grants profession. The initiatives above enhance our efforts in this area, yet we remain steadfast in delivering what you have come to expect from GPA, a commitment to ethics, a community of peers, and focused professional development through our chapters, webinars, journal and our Annual Conference. I look forward to continuing this journey with you and as always welcome your feedback.
